Many times there are people at East Ridge Middle School who we see every day, but maybe don’t thank enough for their hard work. Miss Erica, one of our Custodians, is one of those people.
We had the privilege of interviewing Miss Erica about her job. A few days before Fall Break, Miss Erica sat down with the Pioneer Press staff and answered our questions about her job and experiences. She was wrapping her long day of working to keep our school clean when she gave us the scoop on her responsibilities.
When we asked Miss Erica about what her typical day and week was like, she said it was busy, very busy. That she was always on the move. She also said it could be very hectic.
When we asked Miss Erica what the most important things she does in her job and what she finds most interesting in her job, she immediately said it was “the kids” and “to keep the school clean for the kids and that it was the kids who made her day”
She said that one of the most challenging parts of her job was how hard and time consuming to clean up some areas.
When we asked Ms. Erica if she worked as part of a team or by herself, she said “it’s both, it’s half and half you see sometimes I’m by myself and sometimes I’ve got help”. She also said that important skills in her job was being able to clean and know how to clean properly and also being able to properly sanitize to make sure the school is clean for students on a daily basis.

Lastly Miss Erica said she liked working in our school and that it was her third year at ERMS. She said that students can also help her with her job by doing their best to keep the school clean and putting things away and throwing things in the trash cans. Miss Erica is a very important person at East Ridge Middle School and does a great job making sure our school stays clean and safe for students. The Pioneer Press Staff would like to thank Miss Erica for all of her hard work and dedication and for giving us the chance to interview her. Have a great Fall Break Miss Erica.
